In the area of the abdomen is what the Japanese refer to as the Hara, which they believe to be the center of a person's energy. In this picture, students are using Reiki to balance the Hara. Once the Hara is balanced, the flow of energy to other parts of the body becomes easier, facilitating a state of energetic balance in those areas too. In Western Reiki, the area of the Hara would be in the region of the solar plexus, corresponding to one of the seven main chakras which are often perceived as transformers of subtle energy, taking the universal life energy that is around us and transforming it to keep us healthy.

Notice too that these students prefer to place their hands just above the body when giving the Reiki treatment. Reiki can be performed with the hands either lightly resting on the body, or just above it.

California Reiki organized a special Reiki Workshop as part of its anniversary celebrations. The workshop combined Reiki with a special meditation and the use of empowerment techniques to help manifest desires and create positive outcomes.
