The students also practiced group healings, with focus on how to send energy to a specific part of the body. As with Mikao Usui's original teachings, they practice developing their intuition to guide them, opening themselves to let the energy flow through their bodies and out from their hands. During the course of a Reiki treatment, practitioners are almost always drawn to certain areas of the body. In some cases they may even spend the whole Reiki session treating a single area, allowing the energy to flow where it is needed at that present moment.
California Reiki organized a special Reiki Workshop as part of its anniversary celebrations. The workshop combined Reiki with a special meditation and the use of empowerment techniques to help manifest desires and create positive outcomes.
