About Hawayo Takata
Hawayo Takata (December 24, 1900 — December 11, 1980), a Japanese–American born in Hanamaulu, Kauai, Territory of Hawaii is widely credited as the person responsible for bringing the Usui Reiki System of Healing to the West.
Takata grew up on the island of Kauai and went on to meet Chujiro Hayashi at his clinic in Japan in search of a remedy to her life–threatening illnesses. This experience with the healing energy of Reiki put her on the path to learning this healing art and to becoming a Reiki Master who would subsequently go on to heal and teach many others.
Between 1970 and 1980, Hawayo Takata initiated 22 Reiki Masters charging USD $10,000 each for the training.
