The Taktshang Buddhist Monastery in Paro, Bhutan
Distributed under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation license.
One of the beautiful Buddhist monasteries found in Bhutan. This one shrouded in clouds high on the mountainside made me dream of this beautiful land.
Taktshang means “Tiger's nest” and is so named after the legend of Padmasambhava who flew there on the back of a tiger. Padmasambhava is regarded as the second Buddha by his followers and is said to have brought Tantric Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century.
The monastery is perched on the side of a cliff at 3,120 meters (10,200 feet) and overlooks the Paro valley.
